About the Scholarship

The Chavez Family Vision, Inc. Scholarship Program is dedicated to supporting the educational dreams of students from farmworker families, first-generation college students, and those requiring financial assistance to pursue higher education. Over the past 26 years, we have awarded over 50 scholarships, impacting countless lives and empowering the next generation of leaders.

Our scholarships prioritize candidates who demonstrate exceptional leadership through volunteerism and academic excellence, with a special emphasis on students pursuing STEM-related fields of study. We believe in fostering a culture of service, nonviolence, and public action, values deeply rooted in the legacy of Cesar E. Chavez, our founders, Librado Chavez, Rita Chavez Medina, and Eduwiges (Vicky) Chavez Lastra, and the Chavez Family.

Through the Chavez Family Vision, Inc. Scholarship Program, we are committed to creating a brighter future for young individuals, supporting their educational journeys, and empowering them to make a lasting impact in their communities.

Application Requirements

    • Graduate this academic year (2025-2026) with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5.
    • Enroll or plan to enroll in a Western Associations of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited community college or university, leading to an Associate or Bachelor’s degree, by this coming Fall Semester/Quarter.
    • Please read the application instructions thoroughly, download all necessary templates, and complete all sections before submitting.
    • The application will be closed promptly at 9:01pm PST on February 10, 2026 or once we’ve reached 100 applications.

Selection Criteria

Overall academic achievement and personal accomplishments.

    • Depth of autobiographical essay.
    • Virtual Interview with the applicant and selection committee.
    • Financial Need – Students from families with an annual income of less than $100,000 may have greater eligibility.
    • Priority consideration will be extended to families of farm workers.
    • Strength and relevance of letters of recommendation.

Submission Checklist

To ensure your application is complete, please review and submit the following items. Double-check that all required documents are included before submission to avoid delays in processing your application.

Completed Scholarship Application, including:

    • Answering all application questions.
    • An autobiographical essay.
    • Two letters of recommendation,
    • One from a current teacher.
    • One from an individual of your choice, such as a coach, advisor, club leader, mentor, etc.

Senior Photo or Recent Photo

    • For use in CFV’s social media, website, and event promotions.

Official High School Transcripts

    • Must include first-semester senior year grades.

Financial Documentation

    • A copy of your parent’s or legal guardian’s most recent Federal Income Tax forms 1040 (page 1) or Student Aid Application for California (SAAC).
    • Please black out any personal confidential information like social security number / ITIN.

Parent/Legal Guardian & Student Release Form

    • Consent for the use of your photo and name for CFV materials.

Autobiographical Essay Guidelines

Use the guidelines below to write your essay.

    • Information about you and your family.
    • Tell us about your school experience.
    • Tell us about your college career goals and aspirations for your future?
    • Tell us how you were inspired by Cesar E. Chavez and how you plan to make an impact in your community.
    • *Your essay must be at least one (1) but no more than two (2) typed pages.
    • *Your essay will be evaluated on content, clarity, grammar, and appearance. It may be written in Spanish if needed.
